At last the time has come. Eight years after his last album, the sympathetic Irishman and Blues-Rock-minstrel presents his newest achievement "Beyond The Tears". Since I’ve been in the possession of this CD I’ve been on the verge of them sometimes. I have known Barry for many years, from his time with the band "Albatross" - this man is all-round and just first class!
There are 11 songs on the CD, and all but one written by Barry McCabe ... with a lot of heart and spirit, like I have come to expect from Irish people. Barry lets his Les Paul weep, yes, he lets her cry, then at times it sounds soft. This is not a Blues-Rock album. No, it is a relaxed musical trip through Ireland. Someone who has been to Ireland knows what I mean. Those who has not been there will want to go there!
Barry had invited really good guest-musicians:
Johnny Fean (Horslips), Mark Feltham (Ex-Rory Gallagher, NBZ), Pat McManus (Mama's Boys & Celtus), also Peter van Bogaert - the finest guests! My personal favourite are all of the 11 songs, but Mark’s playing on "Rollin'" and also on the Van Morrison classic "Crazy Love" is fantastic, and this number, interpreted by Barry, is now for me Barry's Song!
Unfortunately, the CD is only available from CD-Baby or Barry's official site. I say "unfortunately", because it should be in every CD shop.
Fazit: It is a must, to own this CD, because Barry McCabe is a fine musician and a very emotional man. You can find this in his music. I am convinced that Barry has not yet shown everything. I am looking forward to the next concert, to hear the songs also live, I can hardly wait!
Many thanks to Barry McCabe…please don't let us wait another 8 years ... and also thanks to Albert Ross Music!
