Another Barry-Weekend,part 1

What a crowded venue it was in Hoogland with many Barry and Mick
Taylor-fans...
The atmosphere was electrified with the highest-expectations...
Sliding Slim started the show and played for about 45 minutes.
This Bluesman from Sweden is a special guy....he played very well
in his own style.....and the people liked it....

Then Barry and the Band came on stage...
Barry had an accordion-player who played the low whistle also...
(however it wasn't our Gerry this time....)
He played along when they started, then left the stage
and returned again when needed...And there was another
guest-player...Sebastian from Dokkum....who played the harmonica,
we saw him before in de Gloppe in Leeuwarden during Barry's
12-day War Child tour in Holland in 2004...
And he played along with Crazy Love....it was an awesome version....
we gazed at Barry, singing that beautiful and sincere words, dressed like a star in his new black silver-decorated shirt...They played inspired and varied the repertoire...from fast and heavy to slow and quiet-stuff and vice-versa....
The packed audience liked it very much and luckily my favourite Barry-song Never Say Die came by too....

Another Barry-Weekend,part 2

When the Legendary Mick(as Barry announced him)came on stage the people
got even closer to the centre of the action
.....and the good vibes thrilled in the warm air.....
I thought it was touching how Mick's admirers had gathered there(even travelling from
France and from England)...not doubting
for a minute he'd give them what they hoped to hear, according to his glorious past.
At first he seemed not at ease in the midst of all that bundled attention...
But after a while he relaxed...his movements became looser and his guitar-skills
were of an outstanding quality...Barry and the Band followed him tightly....
and thus this bunch of excellent musicians rocked the Noot in a miraculous way and a great time
was had by all of us...
We came outside at half past 1 and walked to the car in the cool night....
with tired and painfull feet, but very content!

Another Barry-Weekend,part 3
The next day I went on my way to the beautiful city of Gorinchem, where Barry should play in Het Huis van Breughel...
A nice venue...with a lot of atmosphere...not as crowded as the day before....but I didn't mind that...
I asked Barry how he felt after the gig with Mick...and he was very happy about it...

Slidin Slim started the show again....he said it was his first time in Holland and that he enjoyed it very much....he told us it was very cold in his country....and it seemed there was a lot of inspiration to play the Blues in Sweden...
Barry and the other guys came later on to express their Celtic Blues...a different style, but equally impressive!
The people listened with attention and some were dancing....I could walk before the stage to take pictures from all sides without bothering anyone...and other people were taking pictures too...
The public stayed somewhat further from the stage, clearly
enjoying the music, meanwhile drinking their beer or whatever it was.....it was nice and relaxed to listen
that way...the evening before had been exciting, but also tiring, and this contrast was welcome...

When the gig was over I talked with Slidin' Slim for a few minutes....a really-nice guy!
Then I said goodbye to Barry and the rest of the gang and walked to the station where I saw Barry's name in lights...you can see that on the gig-pictures!
Now I look forward to Barry's next gig in Holland....which will take place within ten days....!'
What a wonderful life to be a fan!

I see many people have wrote a report already about the concert in De Noot. I also enjoyed it very, very much. It was a rocking show from your band and also from Mick Taylor. I have to admit I seen Mick last year and he wasn't this good. I don't know if it was the combination of you and him or if it was the songs or if he was in better condition but it was GREAT!!!! Please do it again soon. I buy your new CD and I like it very much. Very good songs.

Dear Barry,

I see you this first time this year and I enjoy very much your concert. I buy all your albums and play your music now every day. I like too very the Rolling Stones and so I buy a ticket for your show in Hollande with Mick Taylor. It was wonderful, very wonderful. Pff, what a big audience, very many people and very warm but rock & roll should be so, non?
Mick Taylor plays very good guitar and I enjoy to hear him play Lonely Road and In The Dead Of Night with you. I think he too could play Johnny Nobody for some nice rock & roll. Pff, my english is from school. Excusez-moi!
I see you again soon.

They came, they saw and Barry & Mick certainly conquered!!!!!

I only got home late last night so my apologies for only writing a report now (for those of you who might be curious as to how the show was).

It was everything I expected and probably more, which believe me is saying something as my expectations were quite high.

I never got the opportunity to see the Stones when Mick was with them so this was already something special for me. Barry, I only discovered you a year or so ago via CD Baby so it was also high on my list of priorities to catch a live show of yours too and as you never seem to play in the UK I caught a flight over to Holland for this show and it was worth every penny!!!!

I enjoyed the opening act from Sweden (and when you both played together). He's a very good slide guitarist. I must get a record of his. Barry, the new songs sounded wonderful, especially Lonely Road. My wife loves this song and I do too. Johnny Nobody sounded very good with the accordion on it and Dead of Night, what can I say...it's the Rolling Stones song that never was written. It suited Mick's style perfectly. Sublime!!!!

The night was over way too fast. Bye Bye Johnny was a great surprise and Mick played every lick perfectly and then what everyone was probably hoping for but didn't dare to ask...a Rolling Stones song (Jumpin' Jack Flash). In my opinion this was better than how the Stones play it these days themselves and Mick played some lovely slide guitar on it.

So, I am a very tired but VERY happy camper and I thank you both and all for a wonderful weekend. PLEASE, PLEASE come to the UK soon and treat everyone over here to some good music like this. I haven't been this happy since I got my first paycheque.
Cheers

Barry, I'm going to try to order tickets for this because the opportunity to see two of my favourites guitarists on one stage is too much to pass up! Been a Stones fan since forever (especially when Mick was in the band). I didn't know he was still playing to be honest. How on earth did this dream combination come about?

Barry on the radio...

This monday-evening all tracks of Beyond the tears were played in
Bluesy Willem''s radio-show called Blues-encounters
of the dirty kind.,on Local FM in Etten-Leur
It was very nice to see Barry again....he had performed in Belgium
two times in the weekend...and it had been very succesful,(of course..)
Besides Barry there were two men present, they came to promote the
Leerdam Blues-festival...Barry had played
in Leerdam too during his Warchild-tour,so they knew Barry
allready...
In-between playing the songs there were interesting conversations..
Bluesy Willem is a musician too,and he's a long-year friend of
Barry, thus it was 'heel gezellig' in the studio,as the Dutch say....
Barry explained the various stories behind the songs and more things
about the Making of Beyond the Tears.....
They talked about Arthur Conley...his tragic and too early
death....and a.o. about the song Lonely Road...
Barry said we all walk on a lonely road sooner or later in our
life...and the most important thing in that situation is to believe
that it won't last forever...and that there's light at the end of
the tunnel....and if the things don't kill you, they make you stronger in the end...
Willem said he admired Barry for his War-Child and other benefit-
activities...but Barry said that he only did what he could...
and that if everyone did what he/she could in their own
situation....then we could make the world a much better place...
The two hours flew by very fast...and Willem concluded after The
Sunset Waltz that Beyond the Tears was a very good piece of work...

After that it was time to say goodbye again.....after a very nice
and special blues-encounter!

Congratulations on the recent chart success Barry. Thoroughly deserved. I voted for that track on your website. It would do Peter Green proud to have written a song like that. When are you going to come down here and play for us all? Any word on Ballyshannon yet?
cheers

I absolutely love the new CD. Everything on it struck a chord with me and Barry has put so much work into it I'm not surprised that it has become so popular.

1. (Johnny Nobody) This great real rock and roll song sounds like it was made at Sun Studios in Memphis. I have some really old Elvis and Carl Perkins stuff and it sounds like they were there somewhere.

The song transported me back to the Forrester's Hall in Omagh where I used to jive with the Teddy boys. My father had forbidden me to talk to those guys or dance with them. Well...guess what!!

2. (In The Dead Of Night) This great song is so hypnotizing, I have to
play it at least once a day. Barry's voice is great on this and I have to use a word that so far I have not seen in reference to the CD. I know that this song is about problems and trying to figure things out but to me, it's Sexy. The music on this one is amazing.

3. (Crazy Love) I love this version of Van's song. It is really powerful and again the voice is terrific. The way Barry sings the word "righteous" gives me chills.

4. (Catch Me If You Can) This is so much fun to listen to and I like it a lot. Jo Marsh is brilliant on this, but so is everyone else. The musicians on this album are top class.

5. (Trouble) Talk about getting pulled back in time. Great song and brilliant Johnny Fean. You made a great move Barry, involving Johnny in this song was a stroke of genius. He has the most unique sound and I bet he loved every minute working on this one. You really are a great writer Barry.

6. (Arthur) WOW! Barry, this piece breaks my heart but it's only because of the beauty of it. Your guitar playing is impeccable and the melody speaks of Ireland and whispers to those who are thousands of miles away from it.

7. (I Wonder) This is my favourite. The first time I heard it I thought of the great Eric Clapton song for his little boy, "Tears in Heaven", but as I played it more and more it became one of the most beautiful love songs that I have ever heard. It speaks to everyone who wants someone that they can't have for whatever reason. I play your CD every night as I'm going to sleep and this song wakes me from a dead sleep. I listen to it and go right back to sleep. It's a wonderful song.

8. Rollin'- When I hear this song, I am on the Interstate with trucks all around me. What a sound!!! This is an incredible song and paints so many pictures. I love it.

9. (Lonely Road) Really great Blues song. Your voice is so plaintive in this one. I work with an old guy who loves music and when I played your CD, he picked up on this song real fast. He said that it was like something that Merle Haggard would sing and that you should have your manager try to push your CD in Nashville.

10. (Bye Bye Johnny - Be Good) This is a great song also. I have listened to it many times and I know that the man had nothing to do with the song Johnny B. Goode, but when James Brown died, this song stuck in my head all day. That was a sad day.

11. (The Sunset Waltz) This piece is the perfect closer for your CD. It
brought me back to the cheilis in Ireland. People dancing at one end of
the room and people eating at the other and everyone having the best time ever.

Congratulations to you Barry and all your musicians who made this one of the best productions that I have listened to in a long time.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.
Take care

Happy New Year to you Barry. I seen you in Dublin over the Christmas. Fantastic show!!! To be honest, I went to see Pat McManus as I'm a big fan of his and I'd never heard of you before but I know all about you now!
I have to say yourself and Pat are both WORLD CLASS players. Are you going to play together again? I hope so. This city is starved for a good rockin' show like the one you delivered. Good luck in 2007.

Barry's gig in Virginia was a HUGE success. In my opinion it was much better than his shows in Ballyshannon and I think the reason for that was because EVERYONE in Virginia was there to listen to BARRY's music. There was a great crowd in the hall and they all clapped and reacted enthusiactically throughout the night. At the end everyone was up dancing and Barry & band had to come back out on stage.

The combination of Barry & Pat worked very well indeed. Pat also plays fiddle and that added a nice element to the show. He basically stands on one spot and bops backwards and forwards all the time. It was very funny to watch and he was totally in the gig and what he was playing. Barry moved around a lot more (like he normally does) so it was a good combination. I think Barry took it a bit easier on his guitar playing and gave Pat many opportunites to play solos.

The combination sounded really, really good and as many people were saying after the show, you'd think they'd be playing together for ages. It really was that good. I hope they'll make plans to team up again because it was very special and very, very enjoyable.

They played a few songs off the new CD (In the dead of night sounded great!!!!!!), some songs off the Peace CD and other stuff I didn't know. Barry & Pat played a lovely acoustic version of (Gotta) let it go. That sounded fantastic. The crowd seemed to know all the songs and people sat at tables with big smiles on their faces. God, it's amazing all the things you notice when you're sober!!!! lol.

The hotel was a really nice one and the ballroom was a great venue for the show. The sound was excellent and Barry's singing sounded really strong. I'm really glad I made the effort to go and I'll be there again if they do it again. Happy New Year everyone.

Phew, now that that's out of the way I'm off to the pub before they sell out of drink!
All the best to ye!

Barry, it's been MUCH too long ago since we got an opportunity to rock like we did in Virginia the other night!!!! Thank you for the absolutely incredible night. It was over way too fast. Pat Mc Manus sounded every bit as good as I remembered him and he fit right in like a glove. You two should play together more often, and show these young 'un's how it should be done.
Bought your new Cd at the gig and it is already my favourite record of the year (and probably for 2007 too if you don't release a new one).
I see you're playing in Ballyshannon next summer. I'll be there for sure. Thanks again.
From a rock starved fan!

P.S. There was a piece in the Cavan Echo about you. If you haven't seen it I can send it to you.
