Ballyshannon, Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival 2007, part three.
On Saturday we saw Onya and the Heads, the only woman playing at this man-dominated festival so I had to see that...She walked barefoot, like a fairy....had a tattoo on her ankle,multi-coloured hair ...and a very good voice. She did some songs from Rory and also some of her own, one was called 'I'm a Nymphomaniac'...hey, that's a very good title! She had a group of boys in front of her, fans I assume, who sang along with every word of that song, with funny expressions, haha!

Then to the Gables where we saw Pat McManus play, Barry's nephew...I had the chance to greet him and to tell him we were fans of Barry and he was pleased to hear that. He amazed the public with his skills on the guitar and the violin.

After that we hastened to see our Barry and his Band playing at the Rory Gallagher Place. The audience didn't mind the rain and enjoyed Barry's powerful music....Several boys had climbed on a roof and stood there
singin' along and dancin' in their unbalanced and drunken trance. Beneath them was an iron fence with sharp points...but luckily they got away with it!

More of Barry we could witness in the evening in the Lantern Bar...many fans filled the cosy space, where he did two acoustic sets alone with his guitar:

Barry sat there opposite to us, playing and singing in the agreeable half-dark on one of the shabby couches....and it was really awesome and special....The Springsteen and the Bob Dylan songs were very surprising!

Ballyshannon, Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival 2007, Part Four.

In the night a guy with a trumpet played in the streets 'till half past three, 'the last post' and so on....Later on I read on the
site of the Festival that he continued his actions after that by blowing the reveille on the camping-site...

After the short rest I went to St.Anne's Church to see the interior. It rained again as I walked uphill....There was a christening..a nice surprise...there was a good atmosphere, everyone was smiling around the beautiful baby, three months old Victoria Rose. She was carried past the people by her mother and godmother to present her and looked back at me very awake, as if she was clearly aware of the meaning of her role in the centre of the ritual and she didn't cry when the water flowed over her forehead...I hope she will have a good life in this valley of tears...

Sunday...the last day...In the afternoon Barry played at the Gables, an hour later than expected...this was called 'Irish Time'!
A big crowd had gathered and part of them sat down peacefully before the stage-truck, a few boys had very muddy clothes from the camping-site and plastic bags in their shoes, some sight to see...Probably this was the best time of the day to perform, while every visitor was still sober and could remember their names and where they came from..as Onya said the day before, haha! The people got what they wanted with Barry and his thight playing Band, and the last sleepy heads were fully awake in no time and were moving along on the irresistible rock and blues rhythms and blended with some romantic ballads there was a good contrast...

Then it was over...I took some pictures of Barry and the fans....we stood there talking for a while...realising we had to go our separate ways in a few minutes...and sincerely hoping we would meet again at next years Ballyshannon Festival....

Please, I also want to leave a message on the site of Mick Taylor but there is no guestbook. I want to tell him how fantastic it was to see him play in Berlin (and you too of course). I enjoyed all the music very much (the two other bands were very loud) but Mick and you were the most blues. Can I ask, the songs you sing are on which CD? I want to buy your music but I want first to hear the songs you sing in Berlin. I hope I will hear from you.

Excellent show in Berlin. You were the most "soulful" of all the bands. Nice music you and Mick make together. Thank you for signing my CD. In the Dead of Night and Lonely Road are my favourites and also Arthur is very beautiful.

I hope Barry reads these messages because I'd like him to know how much I enjoyed his show in Hamburg. I'm an Australian guy living here and a Stones fan as well. I went to see Mick Taylor (who was brilliant) but I was blown away by his special guest (Barry). What a great voice you have Barry and you and Mick seem to really compliment each other. I've seen Mick a few times over the years but I can't remember seeing him move so much on stage or play so well. You brought out the best in him (for which I'm grateful) but I'm also thrilled to have discovered another brilliant Irish musician. Are you guys planning on doing more shows together? I really hope so. I'll be first in line for a ticket if you are. Do you do shows in Germany yourself, Barry?
Thanks a lot for a GREAT night!!!!

Barry in Ridderkerk....
I had a nice trip with the interliner from Utrecht to Ridderkerk in two hours and ten minutes....with fascinating views of the Dutch landscapes along the way...On the right flowed the glistening and mighty River Lek......and on the left of the long and winding road we passed the Kinderdijk.....and saw the 19 Mills in the distance....some sight to see....!
We stopped to let a group of Japanese tourists in....who visited that famous tourist-attraction.
I had never seen it myself....so I was lucky to see that on my way to Barry
and his Band on the Bluezy-Gooth Blues(Rock)Festival....
They played from 18.00 untill 19.00 hrs. on the bigger stage....
The songs:In the dead of night,Pick a bale of cotton,Johnny Nobody,Crazy Love,Long grey mare,One of these days,Fine,fine,fine,
Some kind of wonderful,Never say die and The peace within'
We had Gerry on the accordion again.....very nice to see him...and the people came close to the stage to enjoy Barry's special
and inspiring music...They wanted more after the encore...but no time anymore and Barry thanked the audience for their
enthusiasm....Afterwards many people waited on Barry...alas I had to rush away immediately....only one bus an
hour, and it was more than 3 hours travelling-time from Ridderkerk to my hometown...
So I said goodbye to Barry and Suzanne, and 'untill next time in Ireland'....

It was great to see you play again Barry. As you may remember my first time to see Barry McCabe live was with Albatross in 013 (together with Walter Trout). You blew me away then and you still do. I loved your Rory style blues then but I like your Irish blues as well. I bought the new CD in Ridderkerk and I have been playing it non-stop since then. It's kinda hypnotic especially In The Dead Of Night. Peter Green would be proud to have a song like that in his name but it sounds a littel bit like the Rolling Stones too. Keep up the good work my friend...

Fantastic show in Ridderkerk yesterday. It was too short. I also enjoyed Ian Parker but your show had so much energy and I like the news songs. They are very from the heart. Thank you for playing for us all. I have been to this festival before but i think this year was the best and that was also because of you and your band.

Fantastic concert last night. Nice mixture between Irish music and blues. I like Rory Gallagher and Davy Spillane so you're mix was perfect. This morning at breakfast I listen to Beyond The Tears. I like In the Dead of Night very much.
